Agents in Approximate Environments

چکیده
The starting point of this research is the multimodal approach to modeling multiagent systems, especially Beliefs, Goals and Intention systems. Such an approach is suitable for specifying and verifying many subtle aspects of agents’ informational and motivational attitudes. However, in this chapter we make a shift in a perspective. More precisely, we propose the method of embedding multimodal approaches into a form of approximate reasoning suitable for modeling perception, namely a similaritybased approximate reasoning. We argue that this formalism allows one to both keep the intuitive semantics compatible with that of multimodal logics as well as to model and implement phenomena occurring at the perception level. 1.1. From Quantitative to Symbolic Modeling of Multiagent Systems The overall goal of modeling reality is to create its adequate description. Especially in the initial phases of modeling, the proper choice of the underlying formalisms is essential, as it provides means for knowledge representation and reasoning, reflecting both the properties of an environment and the application in question. In order to adequately make the choice, one should take into account the quality of information available during the entire model life cycle including its development, use and maintenance. Clearly, many important issues are involved here. This chapter concentrates on the quality of available information such as possible incompleteness, uncertainty and imprecision. The underlying formalism cannot be adequately chosen without addressing these issues. 1Institute of Informatics, Warsaw University, ul. Approximate Reasoning by Agents
We present an approach to approximate reasoning by agents in distributed environments based on calculi of information granules. Approximate reasoning schemes are basic schemes of information granule construction. An important property of such schemes is their robustness with respect to input deviations. In distributed environments, such schemes are extended to rough neural networks that transfo...
متن کاملGeneralizing Plans to New Environments in Relational MDPs
A longstanding goal in planning research is the ability to generalize plans developed for some set of environments to a new but similar environment, with minimal or no replanning. Such generalization can both reduce planning time and allow us to tackle larger domains than the ones tractable for direct planning. In this paper, we present an approach to the generalization problem based on a new f...
متن کاملCharacterization of naphthalene-degrading bacteria isolated from the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea as potential agents for naphthalene removal from polluted environments
Over fifty bacterial strains were isolated from seawater samples in the presence of naphthalene as a sole source of carbon and energy. Among them, three isolates with higher growth rate and naphthalene degradation ability were selected for further studies. Biochemical and molecular analysis revealed that two Persian Gulf isolates, strain PG-10 and strain PG-48 belonged to the group of hydrocarb...

Determination of mobile localization with time of arrival (TOA) signal is a requirement in cellular mobile communication. In some of the previous methods, localization with non-line-of-sight (NLOS) paths can lead to large position error. Also for simplicity, in most simulations suppose non stationary actual environments as stationary. This paper proposes (residual test + recursive least square)...
متن کاملDecentralized Planning in Stochastic Environments with Submodular Rewards
Decentralized Markov Decision Process (Dec-MDP) provides a rich framework to represent cooperative decentralized and stochastic planning problems under transition uncertainty. However, solving a Dec-MDP to generate coordinated yet decentralized policies is NEXP-Hard. Researchers have made significant progress in providing approximate approaches to improve scalability with respect to number of a...
متن کاملApproximative Query Techniques for Agents with Heterogeneous Ontologies and Perceptive Capabilities
In this paper, we propose a framework that provides software and robotic agents with the ability to ask approximate questions to each other in the context of heterogeneous ontologies and heterogeneous perceptive capabilities. The framework combines the use of logic-based techniques with ideas from approximate reasoning. Initial queries by an agent are transformed into approximate queries using ...
